We believe that coming to work everyday should be viewed as an adventure: An adventure in learning, client interaction, camaraderie, and personal growth. At Haggett Longobardi, A Division of J.H. Cohn (HL/J.H. Cohn) expectations are high. Our mission is to provide our clients with the highest level of service, and that takes hard work.
All work and no play is not an expression that will fit into your job description at Haggett Longobardi. We work hard, but there is also plenty of time to play. Throughout the year the staff enjoys many functions and events including:
Tax Season Relief.
Throughout tax season our staff enjoys events designed to relieve the stress associated with the extra hours needed to meet the April 15 tax deadline. In past years Tax Relief has included chair massages, cappuccino bars, ice cream sundae socials, "Luck of the Irish" lottery tickets, Fat Tuesday Breakfasts, and the list goes on and on finishing up with a Tax Party on April 15. Past Tax Party themes have included a Carnival complete with favorite games from childhood, a Mexican Fiesta featuring ethnic food and drink, and the Haggett Longobardi-A-Go-Go with strobe lighting, and the music of the BeeGees.
Firm Outing.
Our annual outing provides an opportunity for all staff to interact in a day long activity. While some outings are designed to help in team building exercises with staff members working side by side with partners and managers; the ultimate goal is always pure fun. This year's outing took us to Six Flags New England. Under sunny blue skies, teams competed for bragging rights as they explored the park on a scavenger hunt where the ultimate goal was to have fun and enjoy the camaraderie. After lunch, everyone enjoyed rides with thrill ratings from "Mild" for the Teacups to "Max" for Superman. Last year the Summer Olympics were held in Farmington, Connecticut as Haggett Longobardi competed for the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in a series of team relays known as Outrageous Olympics. Although it was difficult for any of us to take ourselves too seriously as we donned “fashion accessories” including flippers and snorkel gear, the competition could not have been more intense. The 2005 Outing was a Riverfront Adventure with teams participating in tandem high wire challenges 35 feet off the ground, riding a 50 foot zip line, climbing a 50 foot rock wall and the ultimate team challenge of dragon boat races. Past outings have included a Scavenger Hunt that took teams throughout the streets of Boston, a "Survivor" ropes course, and a Spy Hunt where teams competed against each other to be the first to uncover the mole on their team and assemble a crystal spy satellite. The competitive spirit at HL/J.H. Cohn shines whether it is during a softball game, a tug of war, or during a trip to Yankee Stadium, where allegiances between the Bronx Bombers and the Boston Red Sox are clearly drawn.
State of the Firm Breakfasts.
Each person within the firm contributes to its success, and throughout the year the Partners update the staff on new developments affecting our business. A State of the Firm address is always delivered with an ample helping of good humor. This year, the staff was served breakfast by Superheroes, including Superman, Batman, Robin, and a host of other "courageous" CPAs willing to defend and protect our office. Previous years attire ranged from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, tuxedos to chefs hats to "The Breakfast Bunch" featuring the sunglass wearing mustachioed Super Six.
Family Baseball Game.
An evening at The New Britain Rock Cats (AA Baseball Eastern League Team affiliated with the Minnesota Twins). Family and friends enjoy an evening at the stadium with a barbeque before the game. Kids of all ages enjoy the opportunity to see minor league baseball at its finest; complete with visits from the team mascot, Rocky.
Softball Team.
A co-ed team with
no practices,
no regular schedule,
that hates to lose, and
takes on all challengers
with the sole purpose
of having a good time.
Giving Back.
HL/J.H. Cohn believes in giving back to the communities in which we work and live, and encourages staff members to assume leadership positions in nonprofit organizations. Throughout the year the HL/J.H. Cohn team comes together to support a variety of groups benefiting our community including the collection of winter coats, area food drives, walks to support Juvenile Diabetes, the Arthritis Foundation, and the purchase of holiday gifts for those in need.
